What's inside

Four actives, four named suppliers

Rousselot · France

Collagen peptides

Peptan®

Per serving 10,000 mg

The active dose. Hydrolysed type I collagen peptides, about 2 kDa, small enough to be absorbed as peptides rather than digested away. The same ingredient and the same 10 g a day used in the placebo-controlled skin trials. Bovine in the neutral and raspberry tubs, fish in the Marin C+.

Strong

Skin hydration was significantly higher after 8 weeks; dermal collagen density rose and fragmentation fell from week 4, and both held at week 12 (Asserin 2015, two placebo-controlled trials).

Hyaluronic-acid matrix

Dermial®

Per serving On the tub label

Hyaluronic acid delivered together with collagen and other glycosaminoglycans, roughly the mix it sits in inside the dermis. Its job is water: holding it in the skin, so a collagen gain shows as plumpness and not only as density on a scan.

Moderate

Oral hyaluronic acid has placebo-controlled trials behind it for dry skin and wrinkles, at 120 mg a day over 12 weeks (Hsu 2021). Data on the Dermial matrix specifically comes from the maker.

Seppic · France

Plant ceramides

Ceramosides™

Per serving On the tub label

Ceramides are the lipids that hold the skin barrier together, and they thin with age. These are extracted from wheat; the product is labelled gluten-free.

Emerging

One maker-funded trial: hydration, elasticity and wrinkle scores improved within 15 days, and the hydration gain held at 60 days (Bizot 2017). Promising, small, and not yet replicated independently.

Natural acerola extract · origin not stated

Vitamin C

Acerola extract

Per serving On the tub label

The cofactor. The enzymes that stabilise new collagen need vitamin C, which is why "contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin" is an EU-authorised health claim.

Strong

Essential rather than magic. If you already eat fruit and vegetables, the extra is insurance for the peptides, not a booster on its own.

  • “On the tub” means the amount is printed on the pack's nutrition label but not published anywhere on aeterna.bg. We will add the figures once we have a pack in hand.
  • Serving size is the 390 g pack divided by its 30 servings. Label claims, verbatim — non-GMO, gluten-free, sugar-free, no artificial colourings, no preservatives.

Read before you buy

  • Not vegan

This is animal collagen, bovine or fish. Vegan "collagen boosters" supply amino acids and cofactors instead; they are not the same thing.

  • Weeks, not days

In the peptide trials hydration moved at 8 weeks and collagen structure from week 4 to 12. The ceramide trial reports changes at 15 days, but it is one small study. Budget for two tubs before you judge it.

  • It does not replace sunscreen or a retinoid

Daily SPF prevents most collagen loss in the first place, and a topical retinoid builds collagen at the surface. A supplement adds to that routine; it does not stand in for it.

  • Most of the numbers are maker-funded

Rousselot co-authored the Peptan trial and Seppic ran the ceramide study. That is normal for ingredient research, but it is a reason to read the effect sizes as a best case.

  • Three amounts are not published online

Aeterna names all four actives and their suppliers but only publishes the collagen dose. The rest are on the tub label, which we will transcribe.

Peptan® · skin

The effect of oral collagen peptide supplementation on skin moisture and the dermal collagen network

Asserin et al. Two placebo-controlled trials of 10 g a day of Peptan collagen peptides. Skin hydration significantly higher after 8 weeks; dermal collagen density up and fragmentation down after 4 weeks, sustained at 12. Ex vivo, the peptides induced collagen and glycosaminoglycan production. Co-authored by Rousselot.

Oral hyaluronan relieves wrinkles and improves dry skin: a 12-week double-blinded, placebo-controlled study

Hsu et al. 120 mg a day of oral hyaluronan for 12 weeks versus placebo improved wrinkle measures and skin moisture. Supports oral hyaluronic acid in general; the Dermial matrix itself was not the test article.

Scientific opinion on vitamin C and normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin

The European Food Safety Authority's review behind the authorised health claim that vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation. A cause-and-effect relationship established in nutrition science, not a trial of this product.

How to take it

  1. 1

One level scoop, 13 g, into 200 ml of cold water, juice or a smoothie. Stir or shake. The neutral version is nearly tasteless; the flavoured ones are naturally sweetened.

  2. 2

Any time of day, with or without food. Daily is what matters: every trial dosed every day.

  3. 3

Give it 8 weeks before judging your skin, 12 for the structural changes. Joint and bone studies run 6 to 12 months.

One scoop of COLLAGEN MAX PRO stirred into a glass of water. No sound.

What to expect, and when

  1. Day 15

The ceramide trial's first measurement point; hydration and elasticity scores had already moved. One small study.

  2. Week 4

Collagen density up and fragmentation down on skin imaging in the peptide trials.

  3. Week 8

Skin hydration significantly higher than placebo.

  4. Week 12

Effects held; the end of the trial window. Joint and bone endpoints need 6 to 12 months.

Questions

When and how do I take it?

One scoop in 200 ml of cold water, any time of day, every day. The maker suggests cold water because the powder dissolves cleanly in it; it works in coffee or a smoothie too.

Can I take more than one scoop a day?

The skin trials used 10 g, which is one scoop. Joint and tendon studies have used 10 to 20 g, so a second scoop is within studied ranges, but there is no evidence it does more for skin.

What does it taste like?

The neutral tub is unflavoured and faintly milky. White raspberry and the marine lemon version use natural flavours and a natural sweetener; all three are sugar-free.

Bovine or marine?

Same Peptan peptide chemistry, different animal. Choose marine if you avoid beef or want the lemon flavour. No trial shows one beating the other for skin.

Is it safe?

Collagen peptides are well tolerated across multi-month trials. Check the allergens: fish in the Marin C+, and the ceramides are wheat-derived although the product is labelled gluten-free. If you have a history of kidney stones, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor first.

When will I see results?

The trials measured hydration at 8 weeks and collagen structure from week 4. Plan on two to three tubs before deciding.

How does the subscription work?

€51.12 a month instead of €66.47, with a three-month minimum commitment under Aeterna's terms. Cancel after that.
